OVERVIEW
This commercial lighting upgrade in Singapore transformed the Gateway East and West lobbies using high-efficacy Agranergy LED downlights. The existing fixtures were failing frequently and delivered only around 200 lux at floor level.
Instead of a like-for-like replacement, the lighting layout was redesigned. This reduced the number of fixtures from 10 to six per row while increasing illumination to approximately 800 lux.

The Solution
Agranergy approached the project as a complete lighting redesign rather than a straightforward replacement of the existing downlights.
High-efficacy downlights were selected to deliver greater light output from fewer fixtures. The lighting arrangement was redesigned to improve illumination across the lobby while creating a cleaner and less cluttered ceiling.

Fewer Fixtures, Better Illumination
The original arrangement used 10 downlights per row and produced approximately 200 lux at floor level.
Following the redesign, only six high-efficacy downlights were required per row—a 40% reduction in fixture quantity. Despite using fewer fixtures, the new arrangement achieved approximately 800 lux at lobby level.
This represented a fourfold increase in illuminance while creating a cleaner ceiling arrangement.
Improved Lighting Efficiency
The improvement was achieved through more efficient lighting hardware and a better-designed fixture layout.
When the performance is normalised to match the original 200-lux output, the new lighting solution would require approximately 75% less energy. This demonstrates the efficiency potential of the upgraded lighting system at an equivalent lighting level.
